Safety Committee Meeting - July 2024

Mr. Reno brings up an issue that the things discussed in the BOD meeting do not happen.

Mr. Lancaster brings up a recommendation for a BOD to come up with a committee of three that will take the decisions the BOD makes and run with them.

Mr. Lancaster states we do need signs at every range because new members/visitors aren’t familiar with the ranges.

CPR/First Aid Training: BOD approved. Mr. Lancaster to organize classes this fall for RSO’s.

Match director’s notifying AMR: BOD approved for match directors to notify Cleary Fire Department

Trauma kits being available: Eleven trauma kits available. Motion made to spend up to $500 each for 2 trauma kit boxes and 2 storage containers to be mounted under the pavilion and in the breakroom. They do not want to take competition trauma kits. Mr. Sutterfield will ask Cleary Fire Department regarding AED.

Fish Eye mirrors: Not approved

Light/buzzer system for all rifle ranges: Not approved

Shotgun range: Shot gun range( range zero)

Install a light/buzzer that works when range 5 is activated that has a light and buzzer on the shotgun range to indicate they immediately stop shooting and make range cold.

Install a light system that can be activated from the shotgun range to indicate to range 5 that the shotgun range is in use.

Modify range 5 rules that when light is illuminated from shotgun range they must wait 2 minutes before going down range after light light buzzer has been activated.

Motion made to suggest these rules to the BOD.

Shotgun rules:

  • Firing must be done from the concrete pad, one person/per pad
  • Shotgun cannot be loaded until range is hot and shooter is on the pad
  • No one may be forward of the firing line while range is hot, including anyone using a
    hand throwing device, or reloading target thrower device
  • Immediately upon activation of range 5 buzzer and lights, shooter is to unload their
    shotgun and range is placed in cold status. During cold status, shotgun must be in
    provided rack, empty with action open.
  • Shot size will be limited to number 7 1⁄2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, velocity of shot will be
    limited to 1350 ft/per second or less.
  • Range will be closed by match director placing signage in driveway to shotgun range
    when a BOD sanctioned match is scheduled for Range 5.
  • No personal steel is allowed on shotgun range.
  • Before range is placed in hot status, shooter will activate light to inform range 5 it is
    in use.
  • Shotgun hulls are considered trash. Shotgun hulls must be picked up and properly
    disposed of.
  • You may not fire past the left and right limit

Range 5 Rules:

  • When shotgun light is illuminated, and lights and buzzer are activated, range 5 shooters wait two minutes before crossing the firing line.

Shotgun range requirements before putting into service:

  • 1 concrete pad for firing position
  • Installation of left and right limits for shooter on concrete pad
  • Posted signs with rules will be added to the range as well as current safety rules on
    pavilion and website

Motion made to recommend to the board.

Range closure sign: Motion made for BOD to procure holding portable signs for purpose of closing the range that says the range is closed by RSO.

Motion made for BOD to approve removing the dead pine trees.
